Night Guard /Sport Guard
Night Guard: Night Guards are used when patients are diagnosed with Bruxism.
Bruxism is a condition in which you grind or clench your teeth. If you have bruxism, you may unconsciously clench your teeth together during the day, or clench or grind them at night while sleeping. Studies show that around 70% of bruxism is associated with stress and anxiety. People under stress will often experience lower back pain, headaches, upset stomach and discomfort, insomnia, and loss of libido.
If bruxism occurs, it is habitual and involuntary, where you may be unaware of its occurrence until complications arise. Thus, it is very important to recognize the signs and symptoms of bruxism by having your dentist check your dentition on a regular routine basis.
Signs and Symptoms of Bruxism may include:
• Grinding or clenching your teeth, which may be loud enough to awaken you or your partner while sleeping
• The cusps of your teeth are flattened, fractured, chipped or loose
• Worn tooth enamel, revealing the yellowish inner dentin layers of your tooth
• Increased tooth sensitivity
• Jaw or facial soreness
• Tight jaw muscles
• Pain that mimics an earache
• Headaches originating in the temples region
• Damage from chewing the inside of your cheek
• Indentations on the sides of your tongue
If this condition is diagnosed, we will take a mould of your teeth with impression material and a customized dental night guard will be fabricated. Speak to us about the different types of night guards we offer.
Sport Guard: Important piece of athletic equipment for anyone participating in a sport that involves falls, body contact or flying equipment. This includes football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, skateboarding, gymnastics, mountain biking — any activity that might result in an injury to the mouth.
Mouth guards typically cover the upper teeth, and are designed to protect against broken teeth, cut lips and other damage to your mouth. If you wear Sports guards, mouth guards and mouth protectors are different names for the worn over your teeth that protects them from blows to the face and head.
